UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips

Ones
To Buy
Jelf
Group
This
West Country insurance broker focuses mostly on the small-medium
business market and has managed to double in size since
its flotation in 2004. A strategy of continued organic growth
and regular acquisitions seems to be serving the company
well in a fragmented but consolidating industry. Buy, says
the Mail on Sunday.
Hunting
The
oil services group took a battering on the markets this
week - leaving it attractively priced for long-term buying,
reckons The Independent. Fundamentally sound, it did nothing
worse than fail to exceed its own forecasts and fall victim
to the weak dollar.
Hat
Pin
Executive
headhunters Hat Pin have been transformed since the appointment
of Angela Campbell-Noe as CEO in 2004. The company now has
four distinct operating divisions and managed to increase
operating profits by 227% last year. Analysts expect more
- buy, says the Mail on Sunday.
Serco
The
outsourcing specialist suffered a share sell-off recently
but has defended its honour well with newly-announced profits
6% above market expectations. Serco is continuing to secure
a steady flow of new business - mostly from UK government
contracts - and looks a sound bet to deliver strong growth
over the next year. Buy, says The Telegraph.
CRH
US building
materials group CRH have just published another set of above-forecast
figures and announced it is expecting strong growth. Despite
patchy prospects in the US housing market, the company appears
undervalued against its peers and has seen strong growth
in Europe. Buy, says The Times.
The
Quarto Group
This
small publishing house specialises in books and art prints
for the US, UK and Australian markets and in co-addition
publishing (preparing content to be sold to other publishers).
Its stock is currently trading at just 7 times 2008 forecast
earnings and a 4% dividend yield is on offer. Good value
if a little high risk, says The Independent.
Ones
to Avoid
Punch
Taverns
After
a dismal summer and with a trading update looming, Punch
Taverns are unlikely to inspire much positive market activity.
Sell before it gets any worse, suggests The Telegraph.
