UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips
Top
of the Tips: Share Recommendations at 12 10 2007
Ones
to Buy
Walker
Greenbank
The
management of upmarket wallpaper manufacturer Walker Greenbank
have plenty to smile about at present. An upbeat trading
statement in July should be followed by equally positive
interim results this week. "Deserves to go higher",
believes the Mail on Sunday.
Halfords
It's
not the first time Halfords has been tipped this year -
but the car spares and bicycle group continue to do well.
One in three bicycles sold in the UK are sold by the firm
and bike-related activities have driven sales growth of
over 5% for the company. Halford's shares are presently
at a slight discount to their sector - buy now, says The
Times.
Aveva
Tech
company Aveva provides 3D design systems used to design
ships, oil rigs and the like. Although it's already quite
highly valued, at 24 times 2008 forecast earnings, growth
looks to be heading towards 20% - making the value seem
a bit fairer. Buy now, suggests The Independent.
Ashtead
Plant
hire firm Ashtead have been given a bit of a hard time by
the markets recently, with shares in the FTSE250-listed
company falling by a quarter in the last three months. There
seems little reason for this at present - its debt is secure
and its revenue streams pleasingly diversified. Ashtead's
shares look too cheap, according to The Times - buy.
Premier
Farnell
Electronic
component manufacturer Premier Farnell is looking to expand
into India, China and Eastern Europe - undeniably three
growing markets. Solid first-half results in September support
the belief that this strategy will pay off - with shares
still cheap and a solid dividend, now could be a good time
to buy - The Independent.
Finsbury
Foods
Upmarket
cake maker Finsbury has recently agreed to acquire one of
its major customers, Anthony Alan Foods, which is presently
a Weight Watchers licence holder. This revenue stream and
Finsbury's focus on the top end of the market are providing
it with good prospects in the current marketplace - buy
now, suggests The Telegraph.
Blinkx
Blinkx
(as its name suggests) is an internet-focused tech company.
It floated in May and is so far making good progress in
selling its video search technology. It's also introducing
a new video-based advertising system that could gel well
with the fast growing online video market. Buy now and get
in early, says The Independent.
Ones
to Avoid
Business
Post
Repeated
postal strikes will inconvenience Business Post's UK Mail
customers, who rely on Royal Mail posties for 'last mile'
delivery. That's less of a concern in some ways, however,
then the potential impact of a decline in parcel shipments
through the company's business-to-consumer parcel service.
When you're paid by the parcel, a decline in mail order
sales can be painful. Sell now, reckons The Telegraph.
