UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips

Ones
to Buy
Northumbrian
Water
A solid
business, good fundamentals and a likely takeover target
- plus a healthy dash of dullness. These ingredients combine
to make Northumbrian Water an ideal defensive purchase at
present, believes the Mail on Sunday.
Inchcape
Car
dealer Inchcape is fast building an impressive business
in Russia - nicely offsetting tougher trading conditions
in the UK. This doesn't seem to be reflected in their shares,
which are down 42% this year - buy now, says The Independent.
British
Airways
British
Airways shares currently trade on a low eight times earnings
multiple. This attractiveness is offset by the slight uncertainty
of potential earnings, but BA remains a good if risky buy,
suggests The Telegraph.
Ones
to Avoid
HMV
His
Master's Voice seems confused and uncertain at present,
with shares trading on just five times forecast earnings
and an ongoing battle with users who prefer to shop online.
Steer clear, recommends The Times.
Woolworths
Woolworths
shares have just plumbed to a new all-time low of 8p - meaning
that if last year's dividend was repeated it would work
out at 22%. This seems unlikely given the company's weak
balance sheet. Stay away, says The Times.
Debenhams
Debenhams'
return to the stock market has not exactly been a dazzling
success. Shares are down, there are concerns over the business'
credibility and despite trading at just six times earnings,
investors would be well advised to avoid them - The Times.
