UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips
Top
of the Tips: Share Recommendations at 27 June 2008
Ones
to Buy
Intermediate
Capital
Intermediate
Capital is a city company specialising in providing what's
known as mezzanine finance to fairly high-risk companies.
The company's has recently upped its dividend by 18% on
the back of strong results. The Mail on Sunday believes
negative press is unfair and recommends a buy.
UBC
Media
UBC
is currently the biggest independent provider of programmes
for BBC radio. Its impending sale of GTN will mean that
its cash balance will exceed its market capitalisation,
leaving the company due for a serious revaluation. Buy now,
says The Independent.
Serabi
AIM-listed
gold miner Serabi mines gold in Brazil and was founded by
experienced mining man Bill Clough. It's suffered below-expectation
output caused by non-delivery of new equipment this year,
but these troubles should be over and the company has a
near-monopoly in the area in which it mines. Buy and hold,
says the Mail on Sunday.
RM
RM is
the largest provider of computers, software and IT services
to British schools. Its short-term future looks secure and
the forthcoming appointment of a new CEO could herald new
growth plans. Buy, says The Independent.
Hyder
Consulting
The
civil engineer specialises in tall buildings and has a strong
presence in the Asia and Middle East markets, where its
services remain in demand. Growth is above 20% and the company's
future looks positive. Buy, says The Times.
Ones
to Avoid
GlaxoSmithKline
GSK
look likely to suffer hugely when several of their key patents
expire in the next few years, opening the market to generics.
Although they will undoubtedly recover, the road will be
rocky for a while and now might be a good time to sell,
says The Independent.
HMV
The
last remaining major high street music retailer might have
a new boss with a plausible turnaround plan, but its shares
look dear, especially when its forward price-earnings ratio
of 14 is compared to those of its peers. Sell, says The
Telegraph.
