UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips

Ones
to Buy
Dignity
Only
two things are certain in life - death and taxes. Dignity
caters to people's needs after death, providing funerals,
cremations and pre-paid plans through a network of 540 funeral
homes across the UK. The company handled 12% of UK funerals
last year and looks a solid bet - buy, says the Mail on
Sunday.
Northern
Foods
Currently
sitting at just over nine times 2009 earnings, with a potential
5% yield, Northern Food's cash-generative business model
seems to hold promise. Buy, says The Times.
Laura
Ashley
The
upmarket and fashionable retailer benefits from a lack of
gearing, good growth potential and plenty of cash - buy,
says The Telegraph.
Ceres
The
engineering firm currently only has one UK contract - with
British Gas. Although others are in the pipeline, they aren't
signed yet. That said, the future looks promising and The
Independent rates Ceres as a buy.
Tribal
With
a £50m contract to inspect schools for Ofsted, Tribal's
current weakness looks overdone. Buy on weakness, says The
Times.
Shieldtech
Governments
around the globe are buying Shieldtech's personal protective
equipment for their armed forces. A move into training has
potential, too. Buy, says The Independent.
Ones
to Avoid
Bellway
The
house builder has a reputation for honest trading statements
- this week's first-half figures statement continued that
trend and reinforced the belief that despite a prospective
6% yield, the shares are best avoided. Steer clear, says
The Times.
