UK Stocks and Shares and Investment tips
Top
of the Tips: Share Recommendations at 4/5/2011
Ones
to Buy
Firestone
Diamonds
Diamonds may last forever, but their longevity has not reduced
the insatiable hunger of the world's population for new
ones. Diamond miner Firestone Diamonds is forecasting 400,000
carats of diamond production this year, rising to nearly
1.5m by 2014. Buy, says the Mail on Sunday.
Inchcape
Car dealer Inchcape operates in 26 countries and is a million
miles removed from just being a chain of UK car dealers.
As such, it is well insulated from UK buying trends –
making the shares look cheap at present, according to Investors
Chronicle.
Yule
Catto & Co
Yule Catto is not a household name but most homeowners will
have used some of its products at some point. It specialises
in producing polymers, including latex, which has a wide
variety of applications. The company's 2010 figures shocked
brokers and drove the share price down, but Midas in the
Mail reckons the company is sound and should be a buy.
Compass
Catering group Compass expects to take a £5m knock
as a result of the Japanese earthquake. However, growth
is firm elsewhere and the company reported improving profit
margins last week. The Sunday Telegraph reckons there is
more to come – buy.
Stadium
Group
Stadium Group produces a wide range of electronic equipment,
both off the shelf and bespoke. It has just had a change
of leadership at the top and a new promise of focus on growth.
Buy, recommends Midas in the Mail.
Ones to Avoid
Charles
Taylor Consulting
Specialist insurance firm Charles Taylor Consulting is currently
a ship without a captain. Its shares are now priced at just
6 times earnings forecasts and it has cut its dividend by
about a third. Despite this caution, things still don't
look good – avoid, says The Times.
Ashtead
Equipment rental group Ashtead has seen its share price
rise by more than 160% since September, meaning they are
currently priced at 47 times forecast 2010/11 earnings.
They have gone too far, too quickly – take profits
and sell, advises Investors Chronicle.
